Alcon Appoints New Head of Cluster Franchise, Surgery

Eye care company Alcon ANZ has appointed Penny Stewart, of Abbott Medical ANZ, as Cluster Franchise Lead, Surgical and Country Lead for Australia and New Zealand. Stewart began her role at Alcon on October 24, 2022.

Stewart joins Alcon ANZ following the appointment of Karen Fowler as Head of Business Operations and Strategic Projects, Alcon APAC Surgical. Stewart, who has more than 25 years of experience in roles with medical device companies such as Abbott, Phillips, Becton Dickinson, Roche Diagnostics and Bio-Rad Laboratories, previously served as general manager of the Abbott’s Structural Heart franchise.

Chintan Desai, vice president of Alcon’s surgical franchise, APAC, welcomed Stewart’s appointment. He said, “Alcon’s Surgical Franchise in Australia and New Zealand is one of the most important markets in the region, and I am delighted to welcome Penny to Alcon as the new Head of Surgical Franchise. and ANZ National Manager. Penny’s appointment is essential for us to maintain our leadership in surgical products and equipment and to bring new innovation to the Australian and New Zealand markets as part of our mission to help patients see brighter.

Stewart, who will be based in Alcon’s Macquarie Park offices in Sydney, has a Bachelor of Science in Molecular Biology and a Master of Applied Science in Pathology and Management. She started her career as a pathology medical scientist and held various leadership positions in sales, marketing and commerce during her career.
