Mayor Honey Lacuna announced that the Manila city government is offering free surgery for people with cleft lip and palate problems.

Lacuna asked those who might be interested to contact Sta. Ana hospital under Director Dr. Grace Padillawho said that while the free offer is for everyone who needs it, the priority would be for children.

The mayor said that there will be no requirements for those who will benefit from the free operation other than being residents of Manila and a birth certificate.

Allocation permitting, Padilla said even non-Manilians could be accommodated.

According to Padilla, those interested can register with the hospital, saying the free operation will be on a first-come, first-served basis.

A total of 100 slots have been allocated for this purpose and the operation will take place in April 2023.

Padilla said the operations will be carried out under the SAH program, “Zero Cleft Manila”, which aims to provide free repair of cleft lip and palate, especially in children.

She said even newborns can be enrolled in the program.

Cleft lip or palate operations in private establishments have been reported to cost up to 50,000 pesos.
