Rotary Club of Lutterworth donates £1,000 to international charity for Children’s Slot

The Rotary Club of Lutterworth has donated £1,000 to a leading international charity for the Children’s Slot.

The club presented a check to Peter James who received it on behalf of Smile Train UK after giving a presentation on the great work they do supporting young people around the world.

Peter, who is also a Harborough District Councilor, spoke of his experiences in hospitals in Laos, the Philippines and Brazil over the past few years.

He thanked the Rotary Club for their donation.

The money will help children lead normal, healthy lives after a life-changing operation.

Peter said: “I have supported Smile Train for many years and have been fortunate enough to witness their incredible work at partner hospitals around the world – most recently in Brazil at the end of 2019.

“Money raised by the Rotary Club of Lutterworth means that children who live thousands of miles away can benefit from free cleft surgery and comprehensive cleft care – giving them smiles forever,” said Peter, of Market Harbor.

“While in many ways this is a drop in the bucket, I know it will mean the world to each of these children and their families.”

Ian Vallance, director of Smile Train UK, said: “Thousands of children are born with clefts, many of whom have problems eating, speaking, hearing and breathing – they may also be excluded from their communities because they are ” different “.

“All funds raised will make a huge difference for children around the world.

“We are absolutely delighted with the result and would like to extend a big thank you to everyone who donated money to support us.”
