Surgical Strike Day 2022: Learn how India carried out a daring operation against Pakistan and name the heroes behind a successful counter-terrorism strike

Bombay, September 29: It inspires great pride in every compatriot when we hear the word “surgical strike”. It has been six years since Indian Army counter-terrorism operation against terrorist camps located in Pakistani-occupied Kashmir was launched in revenge for fedayeen attack on Indian army brigade headquarters in the district of Uri. The strike on the night of September 28-29, 2016 was a response to a cowardly attack by Pakistan-based terrorists on a military base at Uri in Kashmir on September 18, in which 19 Indian soldiers were killed.

Following the killing of the soldiers, grief and anger were mounting among security forces and civilians. To avenge the deaths of the martyrs and teach Pakistan a lesson, the Indian Army carried out surgical strikes against terrorist launch pads in Pakistani-occupied Kashmir (PoK) on the night of September 28-29. The Indian Army is moving the 2023 Army Day Parade outside Delhi to be held in the Southern Command Area on January 15.

Since then, September 29 has been observed as “Surgical Strike Day”. During this highly successful mission, the Indian Army destroyed several targets in PoK. All of these targets were launching pads for terrorists who were infiltrating Jammu and Kashmir to carry out attacks against military and civilian targets.

Surgical Strike heroes:

General Dalbir Singh Suhag (retired): The Indian Army’s Chief of Army Staff (COAS) when India carried out surgical strikes, along with other senior army officers, played every possible reaction from Pakistan. General Suhag had made it clear to the team that no one should be left behind.

Lieutenant General Deependra Singh Hooda (retired): The former commander of the Northern Army Command is hailed as the main architect of the vaunted surgical strikes. He oversaw the operation in which the Indian military inflicted “significant casualties” on Pakistan-based terrorists.

Major Rohit Suri: A brave man from 4 Para (Special Forces) who led the team that carried out the daring cross-border surgical strike. Major Suri has shown exemplary leadership and courage beyond the call of duty. He also showed complete disregard for his personal safety and displayed “raw courage”, incapacitating two terrorists in close combat.

Naib Subedar Vijay Kumar: The brave subedar opened an extremely heavy volume of fire on the hideout of the terrorists, allowing the assault group to smoothly close in on the target. He also shot two terrorists during the operation despite being fired upon. The Indian Army is deploying M-777 ultra-light howitzers at forward locations along LAC in Arunachal Pradesh.

Conduct of the mission :

With New Delhi under pressure after the fedayeen attack, India had to come up with a response. The Indian Army deployed Special Forces in the Bhimber, Hotspring, Kel and Lipa sectors on the Pakistani side of the Line of Control and the stage was set for a performative attack across the Line of Control, targeting the launch pads used by the militants to carry out their cross-border operations. attacks. On September 29, three to four teams, comprising a total of 70 to 80 troops from the Indian Army’s 4th and 9th Para Special Forces Battalions, were dropped on the Pakistani-occupied side under heavy artillery fire from India to distract the neighbor. The special mission was carried out between 12:30 a.m. and 4:30 a.m. on the night of September 29.

One team then traversed the LoC in the Nowgam sector of Kupwara District, while the other concurrently traversed the LoC in Poonch District. By 2 a.m., special forces teams had walked 1-3 km on foot and began quietly killing terrorists with guns and destroying bases with hand grenades and 84mm rocket launchers. The special forces, during the mission, destroyed at least seven terrorist camps and killed 38 terrorists in the process.

The brave heroes then quickly returned to the Indian side of the Line of Control, sustaining only one wound, a soldier wounded after stepping on a landmine.
